A white boat anchors the foreground of Mike Gedj’s photograph, its bright hull reflected in gently rippling blue water. Weathered posts mark a loose passage toward distant rocky islands, while the broad expanse of sea gives the composition its spacious stillness.
The story
I framed the boat low in the photograph, leaving room for the blue water to stretch toward the rocks. Its pale hull caught the light, but I kept returning to the reflection beneath it, where every small ripple changed the shape. The old posts offered another rhythm, uneven and spare. In that moment, I wanted the distance to remain open, with nothing between the boat and the horizon but water and a few quiet markers.
