A long pier draws a strong diagonal across a luminous sky, its repeating concrete supports descending into softly rippled water. Framed between two pilings, the low sun casts a narrow golden reflection, setting the structure’s dark geometry against the expansive color of sea and sky.
The story
I framed the pier from beside the water, letting its heavy supports lead my eye toward the small roof at its far end. Above the railing, people stood against the orange sky, their figures almost lost in the scale of the evening. What held my attention was the sun between the pilings: a small, brilliant opening beneath all that weight. Across the ripples, its reflection broke into pieces and gathered itself again.
