Bright green algae trace the ridges and hollows of dark coastal rocks, set against a luminous expanse of turquoise water. The sharply textured foreground contrasts with the sea’s softened motion, drawing attention to the meeting of solid form and shifting water.
The story
I framed the shore without a horizon, letting the green rocks fill the foreground and the water become a field of blue. What held my attention was the way the algae followed every fold in the stone, making its rough surface seem almost draped in fabric. Between those heavy shapes, the sea slipped through narrow channels. I wanted to hold that contrast: the weight of the rocks and the water’s refusal to stay still.
