Weathered rocks and shallow pools form a textured foreground beneath an open band of sea and luminous clouds. In Mike Gedj’s coastal photograph, warm horizon light meets cool blue water, while small reflections carry the sky into the intricate contours of the shore.
The story
I framed the shore so that the small pools would hold as much attention as the horizon. Between the rocks, the sky appeared in fragments: blue in one hollow, pale gold in another. Beyond them, the water softened into a broad, quiet band. What drew me was the contrast between those worn, irregular surfaces and the openness above them. I wanted the photograph to keep both scales together, the distant clouds and the light gathered at my feet.
