About this piece

Two pelicans perch on a wooden railing, their upright forms set against a luminous sky and a low sea horizon. The angular timber structure frames the open water, balancing the birds’ rounded bodies with strong horizontal and diagonal lines.

The story

I framed the two pelicans with enough space for the sky to stretch around them. One stood taller than the other, but both faced my camera with the same composed presence. Below the railing, the sea carried a fine texture of light; distant boats were barely more than marks along the horizon. I liked how the weathered wood held everything together, giving this open expanse a small, shared resting place.
