A green heron stands in profile on a branching limb, its pointed bill and bright eye directed to the right. Fine, pale feather edges articulate the folded wing against a softly dissolved background of turquoise, green, and gold.

The story

I framed the heron with space ahead of its bill, letting its gaze carry the photograph beyond the branch. Through the lens, the surrounding foliage softened into broad washes of color, while each pale line on the folded wing remained distinct. What held my attention was the contrast between those slender yellow legs and the compact weight of feathers above them: a delicate balance, quietly maintained.
