An orange butterfly holds its wings open among small red flowers, its black borders and pale yellow markings sharply defined against green foliage. Bright light reveals the fine branching veins of the wings, whose diagonal spread gives this intimate portrait a poised, expansive presence.
The story
On this January day, the frame holds a pocket of vivid green and orange. The butterfly rests among scarlet blossoms, its slender antennae reaching into the light. Fine veins cross the wings like tributaries, disappearing into dark borders. Behind it, the leaves soften into broad bands of green, and the small encounter fills the view.
