A gecko emerges from the edge of a burgundy leaf, its finely textured scales rendered in green, amber, and blue. The close framing sets this small, sharply defined presence against an expansive field of soft pink, balancing concealment with vivid detail.
The story
I was drawn first to the broad wash of pink, then to the small face interrupting its edge. From behind the dark leaf, the gecko revealed just enough of itself to change the whole photograph. I kept the frame wide around that tiny presence, letting the color remain spacious. What held my attention was the contrast: the leaf's firm boundary, the softness beyond it, and those bright eyes at the threshold.
