Mike Gedj frames a green gecko among sweeping red leaves, its small foot spread across the dark foreground surface. Bright light reveals the translucent curl of the leaf opposite, balancing the animal’s finely textured head with a bold field of scarlet.
The story
I was drawn to the red leaves first, especially the curled edge where the light passed through. Then the gecko’s eye gave the scene a different center. I kept the frame close, leaving space between its pointed head and the rising leaf. Through the lens, that small interval felt expansive. What held my attention was the contrast: a delicate foot resting on deep crimson, and a green body almost disappearing into shadow.
