About this piece

Mike Gedj frames a shoreline where dark, rounded stones meet a luminous veil of moving water. Cool gray surfaces and scattered ochre markings remain distinct in the foreground, gradually dissolving into the softened textures above.

The story

I looked down at the shoreline rather than out toward the horizon. At my feet, each stone held its own small detail: a hollow, a rust-colored patch, a bright edge catching the light. Water moved across them, hiding some and leaving others briefly clear. I wanted to hold that meeting of weight and movement, the way a solid shore could seem to disappear without anything being taken away.
