A marine-life mural fills the right side of the frame while a wooden pier recedes toward the calm ocean horizon. Low sunlight illuminates the painted boards and textured sand, bringing warm gold into a composition of turquoise, pink, and blue.
The story
I framed the pier from the sand, letting the painted wall lead my eye toward the water. The low sun caught the grain of the boards and every ridge underfoot, giving the scene a warmth that seemed to extend beyond its colors. Painted fish hovered beside the quiet sea, while bunting marked the railings in red, white, and blue. I wanted to hold that meeting of seaside exuberance and an almost empty shore.
