About this piece

Mike Gedj frames Miami’s waterfront skyline across a broad expanse of water, with rough shoreline rocks anchoring the foreground. A sunburst between the towers casts a bright vertical reflection, bringing warm gold into the blue palette of water and cloud-filled sky.

The story

I stood at the rocky edge, looking across the water toward the closely gathered towers. My eye kept returning to the narrow opening where the sun met the skyline. Its light spread outward in rays and downward in a broken trail across the ripples, almost reaching the stones at my feet. I framed the city with those rough edges still visible, holding the distant buildings and the immediate shoreline together in one last wash of gold.
