Warm, directional light illuminates the ridges and pointed crown of a seashell at the water’s edge. Curving bands of foam surround its solid form, while a long shadow stretches across the finely textured sand.
The story
I watched the foam draw a pale boundary around the shell, briefly joining its curves before loosening into bubbles. The light caught each raised ridge and left the far side cool and shaded. From this close, the beach became a small landscape of peaks, channels, and dark sand. I framed the shell with its long shadow, drawn to the contrast between something so firmly outlined and water that could not hold a shape.
