About this piece

Golden light fills towering clouds and spreads across the shallow water beneath a slender, open-frame lighthouse. The seawall draws a dark horizontal line through the composition, separating the upright tower and palms from the curling surf below.

The story

I framed the lighthouse between the bright clouds and the water, letting its narrow outline hold the center. Along the beach, a small wave curved around a dark rock and spread a thin layer of gold across the sand. My eye kept returning to that reflection: the same light, immense above the tower, gathered briefly at my feet. I wanted the photograph to hold both scales together.
