A fan-shaped shell introduces warm amber and cream into a lattice of bare branches. Its fine radial ribs contrast with the rough bark, while the blue sky opens clear spaces between the intersecting limbs.
The story
I noticed the shell before I could make sense of its place among the branches. Its warm color held my eye, a small fan of amber against the blue. I framed it through the bare limbs, letting their irregular lines surround its delicate ribs. How it arrived there mattered less to me than the sight itself: something shaped by water, resting in wood, with nothing but sky behind it.
