About this piece

A sand-dusted wooden walkway descends between rope-linked posts and dense coastal grasses toward an open sea horizon. Warm sunlight picks out the green and gold of palm fronds, while the converging fences draw the eye beneath an expansive, cloud-filled sky. The empty passage gives the scene a welcoming stillness.

The story

May light gathers along the palm fronds, turning their edges gold. Sand settles into the spaces between weathered boards, softening the line of the walkway. On either side, grasses crowd against the ropes while the palms lean into the open sky. Ahead, the path gives way to a narrow strip of beach, and the sea carries the gaze beyond the last post.
