About this piece
A rooster stands right of center in vivid green grass, its scarlet comb and golden neck feathers illuminated by strong sunlight. Blue-green highlights shimmer across its darker plumage, while softly blurred foliage and a building frame its sharply defined silhouette. The low viewpoint lends this small, alert figure a commanding presence.
The story
Late August light fills the grass, catching each blade around the rooster’s feet. He holds his head toward the leafy shade, one bright eye visible beneath his scarlet comb. Gold feathers fall along his neck, and the raised tail gathers darker flashes of blue and green. Behind him, the building dissolves into soft blocks of color; for this moment, the lawn belongs to his quiet watch.
