A long pier reaches from the right edge toward the horizon, its repeating supports set against rolling surf and a luminous sky. Gold light near the horizon gives way to rose, lavender, and blue, echoed in the water and wet sand. Small figures and glowing lamps lend an intimate scale to the expansive coastal composition.
The story
Late May finds the shore washed in pink light. A wave spreads a thin sheet of foam across the sand, then draws back around scattered fragments of seaweed. Above the water, a few figures occupy the pier beneath its slender lamps. Their warm points of light remain steady while the sea breaks their reflections into shifting ribbons.
