A Fold of Light

About this piece
A close botanical study isolates a curled green form above a sweeping orange bract. Transmitted light illuminates its fine ridges, while shallow focus dissolves the surrounding foliage into yellow and green. The diagonal composition gives this small detail a sculptural presence.
The story
On this May day, light gathers in a green fold and makes its thin edges glow. An orange bract sweeps beneath it, its surface marked with tiny dark flecks. Beyond this narrow plane of detail, the garden becomes a wash of yellow and green. The curl holds its shape like a ribbon paused in the act of opening.
