The Leaf Holds Gold

About this piece

A broad leaf spans the frame, its fine parallel veins and ragged margins illuminated in yellow and gold. Deep shadows cross its surface, while softly blurred orange stems form vertical counterpoints behind it. The close composition gives the weathered foliage a quiet, sculptural presence.

The story

In the May light, a leaf holds both brilliance and wear. Sunlight passes through its thin surface, revealing lines that run toward the torn edge. Brown fragments curl inward where the green gives way, their dry texture distinct against the luminous yellow. Behind them, warm stems and dark foliage dissolve into softness.
