About this piece
A tightly framed flower fills the image with overlapping scarlet bracts, their pointed tips enclosing a pale, patterned center. Bright light traces the curved edges and reveals fine surface texture, while shallow focus and deep shadows give the composition an intimate, sculptural presence.
The story
On this May day, the flower holds the light along its scarlet edges. One curved fold rises before another, sheltering a pale center that slips gently out of focus. Shadows gather in the narrow spaces between them. Beyond this small enclosure, the world dissolves into red and darkness.
