About this piece
Two scarlet torch ginger flower heads fill the frame, their overlapping bracts edged with pink highlights. Strong light reveals fine surface textures and glossy curves, while blurred green foliage and deep shadow isolate their sculptural forms. The upright head at left balances the broader, opening head at right in a composition of saturated color and quiet tension.
The story
In the May light, red rises from a soft surround of green. One flower holds its bracts close, while the other opens outward, exposing a small, pale-patterned center. Bright edges trace each fold, then disappear into the dark between them. The moment rests in these two gestures: gathering inward and opening to the light.
