A Heart of Scarlet

About this piece

Scarlet bracts rise around a compact, pale-tipped center, filling the frame with overlapping curves. Bright light traces their rims and reveals fine surface texture, while shallow focus softens the surrounding forms into red and black. The close framing gives the flower a sculptural, enveloping presence.

The story

On this May day, the flower holds the light along its curled edges. Scarlet folds open around a center still gathered tightly into small, cream-tipped forms. The eye moves between luminous rims and deep pockets of shadow, finding texture where the focus settles. Beyond this small chamber of color, the world falls away.
