About this piece
Crimson flowers and rounded golden-orange buds emerge along a branching network of woody stems beside a textured trunk. Filtered light saturates the green foliage and dissolves into bright background highlights, setting the flowers’ intricate centers against an airy field of color. The dense growth at left balances a single prominent bloom extending into the open space at right.
The story
On this May day, light slips through the leaves and gathers in small, luminous openings. Rounded buds hold their petals close beside flowers already spread wide, their yellow centers edged with delicate pink filaments. Rough stems cross the frame like quiet lines of handwriting. One red bloom reaches away from the trunk, surrounded by green and the brightness beyond.
