About this piece
Scarlet floral forms overlap around small yellow centers, their curved surfaces illuminated against deeply shadowed foliage. The close composition balances two prominent foreground clusters with softer blooms above, creating a study of saturated color and sculptural folds.
The story
In the light of early May, red gathers along the plant’s folded edges. Small yellow centers gleam between broad scarlet surfaces, drawing the eye into their sheltered recesses. Narrow leaves rise through the cluster, then disappear into darkness. Beyond this brief concentration of color, the surrounding growth remains quiet and indistinct.
