About this piece
Orange-red bracts extend from an upright stem amid broad, deeply veined green leaves. Concentrated sunlight illuminates their tapered forms and the curling leaf edge, while cast shadows and near-black recesses give the close composition a sculptural intensity.
The story
On this May day, light finds a narrow passage through the foliage. An orange bract reaches left into darkness; another stretches right beneath a curling green leaf. Fine veins gather along the fold like lines pressed into silk. Across the larger leaf, a shadow repeats the plant’s pointed shapes, holding a quieter version of its fire.
