The story

Late July light settles brightly on the whitewashed roof, picking out cracks and worn edges. The flag gathers into folds above the sea, its blue and white repeating the colours around it. Beneath the arches, green-patinated bells hang from rust-coloured chains. Far below, two boats draw slender wakes across the water, leaving the foreground in a quiet that seems to stretch toward the cliffs.
