A flowering coleus rises above broad, scalloped leaves patterned in vivid green and burgundy. Strong sunlight illuminates their branching veins and red edges, while a shallow depth of field softens the surrounding foliage. The upright stem and outward-reaching leaves lend structure to an otherwise luxuriant field of color.
The story
Late November finds a small flowering stem held among richly patterned leaves. Light passes through their thin edges, turning red margins amber and tracing each vein in green. Above this bright expanse, violet blossoms open with a delicacy that asks for a closer look. The surrounding foliage dissolves into shadow and color; for a moment, the smallest flowers hold the eye.
