Scarlet Unfolding

About this piece

A close view isolates red-orange tubular blossoms and tightly folded pink buds among yellow-green forms edged in burgundy. Strong sunlight reveals fine surface textures and luminous petals, while softly blurred foliage gives the radiating cluster depth and sculptural presence.

The story

Late November finds a brilliant pocket of colour held against deep green. Sunlight travels along the flower tubes, warming scarlet into orange at their open mouths. Between them, closed buds keep their compact shapes, each fold catching a narrow highlight. Beyond the cluster, the foliage dissolves into shadow, leaving this small unfolding to fill the frame.
