The Folded Heart

About this piece

A succulent rosette fills the frame, its broad outer leaves encircling a tightly folded center below and right of the midpoint. Soft light reveals finely textured surfaces, mottled greens, and muted pink margins, while shadows between the leaves lend depth to the quiet, sculptural composition.

The story

In late August, the eye follows one curved leaf inward, then another. Olive and blue-green surfaces carry small marks, their pink edges catching the light like fine seams. The broad outer leaves open toward the frame’s boundaries; at the heart, each fold shelters a smaller one. Here, the passing month seems to gather into a slow spiral.
