About this piece

A tightly cropped flamingo bends its vivid orange neck above layered pink and coral plumage, its yellow eye sharply defined against a black background. Bright light reveals fine feather textures and the pale, black-tipped bill, while the looping neck gives the portrait a sculptural, inward-looking stillness.

The story

In this December frame, the year's closing weeks hold a flare of orange and rose. The flamingo lowers its head toward its feathers, its neck enclosing a pocket of darkness. Light traces the fine plumage and gathers in the small yellow eye. Everything beyond this folded shape falls away, leaving the quiet intimacy of a bird tending to itself.
