A succession of brick arches diminishes toward the right edge, drawing the eye through an empty passage. Strong lateral light reveals weathered masonry and casts alternating bands across the ground, while the monochrome treatment gives the architectural rhythm a quiet gravity.

The story

In early January, sunlight enters the passage in measured bands. Each arch holds a dark curve above the illuminated foot of a pier. The nearest bricks reveal their pits and worn edges; farther away, those textures gather into fine lines. The eye moves onward through the repeating bays, finding another interval of light beyond each shadow.
