Seen from below, a brick tower rises toward a riveted metal upper structure, its narrow central window framed by layered arches. Strong sunlight defines the masonry and stone ledges, while deep shadows beneath the metal platform sharpen the contrast. The black-and-white composition gives the converging walls a monumental, austere presence against a lightly clouded sky.

The story

In these first days of January, light rests on the brickwork while the narrow window holds its darkness. The eye follows the courses upward, passing stone ledges and nested arches until masonry gives way to riveted metal. Each material offers a different texture: rough brick, pale stone, smooth plates punctuated by fastenings. Above the railing, the sky opens without a boundary.
