About this piece

A weathered, leafless tree rises from a scrub-covered slope, its branching silhouette counterbalancing three isolated buttes across the desert plain. Strong sunlight defines the grain of the wood and the cliffs’ vertical faces, while black-and-white tones unite their textures beneath an expansive sky.

The story

Early September light falls across the open desert, tracing the furrows of a bare trunk. Its branches reach into the sky while the distant buttes hold their broad, level crowns above the plain. Sparse grasses gather around the exposed wood, casting fine shadows on the slope. Between the tree and the stone, distance opens into a quiet that seems to have no edge.
