The story

September light enters through a narrow reach of sky and gathers along the sandstone rims. Below, the walls fold into shadow, their fine lines flowing around each bend. The eye follows an orange ridge upward, then rests in the pale opening. For a moment, the enclosing stone seems as light as draped cloth.
