About this piece

An upward view through a slot canyon reveals sweeping sandstone walls, their fine striations traced by light. Saturated orange and red surfaces rise from deep violet shadows toward slivers of blue sky, creating a composition both enclosed and expansive.

The story

Early September light enters through a narrow opening, touching the stone with gold. Below it, curved walls gather the brightness into long, pale ribbons. The eye follows one ridge upward, then another, until a small piece of blue sky interrupts the enclosing red. Here, the day's passing registers in the distance between a luminous edge and a fold of shadow.
