Closely framed sandstone walls sweep through the composition in overlapping curves, their fine strata tracing the contours of a narrow canyon. Luminous orange and gold give way to rose and violet-brown shadow, lending the solid rock an almost fluid appearance. A broad foreground curve gathers the eye toward the brighter folds above.

The story

September light finds its way into the narrow space and gathers along the sandstone ridges. Each illuminated edge reveals another fold, another fine line running through the rock. Below, shadow settles into a broad curve, its muted violet holding against the orange glow. The eye follows these quiet currents until stone seems to move without leaving its place.
