About this piece
A glossy reptile ornament, painted red, cobalt blue, and yellow-green, rests on a weathered wooden shelf. Strong sunlight illuminates its rounded head and splayed feet, contrasting the smooth painted surface with cracked wood and scattered debris. White lattice frames the scene, while shallow focus softens the surrounding objects into patches of color.
The story
March sunlight settles across the shelf, catching the little creature on its painted brow. Its feet spread against the rough wood as though it holds this small patch of warmth in place. Behind it, the lattice opens onto fragments of turquoise and green. A slender twig lies nearby, unpainted and unpolished, sharing the light.
