About this piece

Undulating canyon walls fill the frame, their fine sedimentary lines tracing overlapping curves of red, coral, and violet. Light catches the upper folds while deep shadows border the foreground, creating a composition at once enclosed and expansive.

The story

September light reaches into the canyon and gathers along the ridges of stone. Each illuminated edge reveals another curve, another thin line running through the rock. Below, violet shadow pools in a broad hollow, holding the eye before it travels upward again. The walls appear to flow, yet nothing moves except the light.
