About this piece

Layered sandstone walls fill the frame, their sweeping contours enclosing a narrow glimpse of blue sky. Light turns the central rock orange and rose while the nearer surfaces deepen into violet and near-black, giving the close composition a quiet, sculptural intensity.

The story

September light enters through a slender opening, finding the raised edges of the stone. Orange gathers above the passage while violet settles into its folds. Fine bands run across the walls like currents held still. The eye follows them inward, toward a blue seam of sky that keeps the enclosure open.
