The story

In early September, yellow flowers hold their bright cups above the dry tangle. Sunlight catches the fine edges of their petals and the pale hairs along their stems. Behind them, the rocky ground softens into russet and ochre. Some buds remain tightly gathered while nearby blooms spread wide, each keeping its own measure of the day.
