The story

Early September holds its brightness in three open flowers. Light follows each yellow petal toward a dark, densely patterned center, then slips into the shadows beneath the leaves. Unopened buds remain tucked along the stems, small green counterpoints to the broad blooms. The eye travels between them slowly, finding a different measure of gold in each.
