The story
In early September, two open flowers hold the light among a tangle of leaves. Gold gathers along each narrow petal, surrounding centers dark and granular as small mosaics. Below them, a closed bud keeps its green folds drawn together. The background softens to coral, leaving this small exchange between bloom and bud undisturbed.
