The River Holds Light

About this piece

A broad river bend encircles a monumental rock formation, framed by steep, striated canyon walls and an orange-red foreground ledge. The low sun rests just above the distant rim, casting gold reflections across the water beneath a sky that shifts from yellow to blue. The elevated viewpoint gathers these immense forms into a composition of enclosing curves and layered horizons.

The story

September light gathers at the canyon rim, where the sun appears as a small bright point against the vastness of stone. Below, the river carries a ribbon of gold into the shadows. Narrow green margins follow the water, tracing a softer line beneath the fractured walls. The eye travels around the bend and returns to the central rock, held between the river’s dark curve and the luminous sky.
