Viewed from below, a weathered iron fence carries an irregular succession of brass, silver, and brightly colored padlocks. Its upper rail cuts diagonally across a clear blue sky, while a sunburst interrupts the dark metal with brilliant white light. Repeated bars and small, varied locks give the composition a buoyant rhythm.

The story

July light gathers on the padlocks, turning their edges gold. Each closed shackle holds its small place along the weathered rail, some beside rust, others beside bright paint. They suggest promises whose words remain outside the frame. Between the bars, the sun shines through what the fence cannot hold.
