The Blue Threshold

About this piece

A cobalt-blue double door fills a reddish stone surround, its paired panels held in near symmetry within weathered pale plaster. Even light reveals worn paint, coarse masonry, and the dark veining of the steps below. A small plant at the lower left interrupts the architectural order with a quiet, irregular gesture.

The story

Late July light rests on the pale wall, revealing the chipped edges of its surface. The blue door stays closed, its curved mouldings repeating above a tarnished metal handle. At the threshold, green leaves spread across the stone, softening the meeting of wall and step. The eye follows their stems upward, then returns to the narrow seam between the doors.
