Clay In Cool Light

About this piece
Two large earthenware jars occupy the lower right of the composition, balanced by a small, two-handled orange vessel in an arched wall niche. Cool blue light across the pale plaster contrasts with the warm clay, revealing raised bands, wavy decoration, and mottled surfaces. Broad areas of unoccupied wall lend the arrangement a measured stillness.
The story
On this July day, the light gathers blue across the plaster, leaving the clay warm to the eye. The two large jars stand close together, their rounded shoulders overlapping. Above and apart, the small orange vessel holds its place beneath a shallow arch. The eye follows a raised line around one jar, then returns to the quiet expanse of wall.
