A tightly framed equine portrait brings a dark, reflective eye into focus amid copper-colored hair and fine lashes. The warm detail of the horse’s face contrasts with an expansive blue blur, balancing tactile intimacy with open space.
The story
I let the rest of the horse fall outside the frame and stayed with the eye. Sunlight picked out the copper hairs, each one briefly distinct against the blue beyond. Through the lens, the smallest details became the whole encounter: a curved lash, a bright reflection, the changing direction of the coat. I wanted to leave room around that gaze, to make a portrait without needing to show the entire animal.
