About this piece

Mike Gedj’s panoramic photograph places scattered boats between textured turquoise water and an expansive, softly graded sky. Slender masts punctuate the horizontal composition, while the shoreline and mountain ridges recede into pale coastal haze.

The story

I let the water fill the foreground, drawn to the small ripples beneath the scattered hulls. Across the bay, palms formed a narrow fringe at the foot of the mountains, and each ridge grew softer as it reached into the haze. The boats gave my eye somewhere to pause without interrupting the openness. I wanted to keep that balance in the frame: a place full of vessels, yet still generous with empty space.
