Dark, textured rocks frame a coastal panorama in which turquoise shallows deepen toward the blue horizon. A narrow beach and steep green cliffs draw the eye along the shore, while a pale-faced offshore island provides a counterpoint to the mountainous coastline.

The story

From above the rocks, I watched the color change across the bay: clear turquoise close to shore, then a blue that seemed to carry the eye beyond any fixed distance. The cliffs held deep shadows even beneath the bright sky. I framed the rough stone along the bottom of the photograph to keep something close and tangible against that openness. Offshore, the small island gave my gaze a place to pause.
